4/28 We have two labs, Jet and Mabel. David's favorite is Jet (because he tolerates Dave's tormenting). In our house we have low double-hung windows and dave often goes to the open window and calls Jet. If Mabel comes to the window, he starts to cry. It's quite funny that he has a favorite, although Mabel doesn't really like Dave either, so it must work both ways.


Happy Easter and happy to be outside! We had Stake Conference and elected not to go. In case you are wondering why, this maniac can't sit still for anything and two hours of sacrament would do all of us in. Whenever Brian serves the sacrament (we're low on deacons), Dave screams and I always end up taking him out. One sunday they had to close the chapel doors b/c dave would not stop screaming. I guess I can't control my child as much as I'd like, ahh motherhood. I also love it when the old ladies tell me what works best for them too. That just really tops off my Sundays...then it's off to Primary where I get to babysit 50 more kids. Yea!

Oh yeah, back to easter. David loved finding the eggs the Easter Bunny left out for him. He couldn't figure out what he had done to deserve all those treats. The best though was that the Easter Bunny brought him goloshes. Since we've ruined the only pair of white shoes in the mud we were glad to have those. Now dave wakes up every morning and the first thing that comes out of his mouth is "shoes!" Spring is finally getting here.


5-01-06 "Danger" is my middle name! After mommy changed the lightbulbs she had to run to get the back door. When she came back Danger Dave was on the ladder, despite all the child warnings. I guess those only work for children that can read! Wait, I remember somewhere that the parents are supposed to watch their children...
BTW we finally cut Dave's hair. Too many people were thinking he was a girl and begging us to cut it.

Martha Cooks at Thanksgiving Point

Kathryn took Susan to a great evening at Thanksgiving Point where Martha was doing her monthly cooking demonstration. Susan took her camera and made a pest of herself. Martha did a wonderful job, as you would expect. The recipes were deliciously gourmet, and Martha made it all look simple. There were about 20 people in attendance. The kitchen is beautiful and spacious, if somewhat lacking in all the tools one would have at home. There were two helpers. Martha engaged Susan in the kitchen also (probably to keep her from taking more pictures). Carolyn took Susan to the first class Martha taught, a year or so ago. We highly recommend them!

Old-Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake

Dessert first, anyone? This delicious strawberry shortcake, served with whipped cream and lemon curd, was garnished with delicate violets from Martha's garden. You know they're edible, don't you? (This motivated Susie to go get some starts from her!)

Roasted Asparagus with Hollandaise

This was delicious. The hollandaise sauce is made in the blender. What a snap!

Rack of Lamb with Wilted Greens and Boysenberry Sauce

This was delicious, and what a presentation! The greens were turnip greens, sorrel, beet greens, or swiss chard. Also included were diced red onion, tomato, cooked, crumbled bacon, vinegar and sugar.

NYC Pictures

New York Trip

Zac and Lacey came to New York to visit last week. We had an awesome time! It was a little chilly, but we did everything we wanted to do - Empire State Building, saw the Statue of Liberty, hung out in Times Square, went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, walked around Central Park, went over the Brooklyn Bridge, went to Wall Street, saw Ground Zero, went on a cruise around Manhattan, hung out in Little Italy and China town and bought some knock-off Prada purses while we were there, got in to see a taping of "Live with Regis and Kelly," and saw two Broadway shows - Wicked and the Lion King. We also got food from street vendors - ate falaffel and knishes and hot dogs, and had the other typical NY experiences such as sitting in traffic, getting honked at, listening to the entertaining NY accents, and taking the subways. It was an eventful few days!

Winter Walks

Jane and her mommy like to walk to the Logan temple, which is visible between the bare branches of the deciduous trees in their yard. Jane keeps warm in the woolen hat and mittens her grandma made.

Texas Bluebonnets

Bethany loves her daily walks, especially when she ends up in the field of bluebonnets across the street! The bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas.

Tractin' in a Winter Wonderland . . .

Elder Stott has spent the last two months faithfully tracting in spite of the snow and cold. He says the area is beautiful, and that he has learned to love the trains passing so near the apartment!

Hunsaker Happenings in February!

What an exciting month for the Hunsakers! Lorelei turned 2! Derek, Andrea and Lorelei were sealed in the SLC temple on the 18th! February 22nd was especially a big day as Lacey turned 16 and Zac received his mission call. (Keep reading if you haven't heard the good news yet!) As if that wasn't enough excitment for one day, Dawson pulled out his 4th tooth at the birthday/missionary-call party! The month will end with Carolyn's birthday! Although she'd like to forget about it this year!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to Zachary Francom who was called to serve in the Mexico Mexico City South Mission!! He will be entering the MTC on May 31st. Information that Carolyn has gathered so far: On the map, it goes from the point of Mexico City down in a triangle shape clear to the edges of the land of Mexico. (point of the triangle on top at Mexico City). His mission president is a 45-year-old physician, Stephen Meek, from Farmington. Wife is a Love, but I don't see any close relationship.

I also talked to a friend today who works with someone who served in Mexico. Apparently he only had ONE American companion his whole mission, and he had a cockroach crawl out of the toilet onto his behind one time! GOOD LUCK!

We were delighted to receive pictures from Nathan Friday. He is serving in a mountain town near Bend, close to the center of Oregon. Click to enlarge and read sign!

LeJeune's 85th Birthday Bash - January 7, 2006

Happy 85th Birthday to Aunt LeJeune on January 8, 2006. LeJeune and Todd meet in the courtyard at the Phoenix Airport Hilton.

We enjoyed Seared Salmon Spinach Salad, Tortilla Soup, Reuben sandwiches, and Chicken Ceasar Salad Wraps for lunch.

Sharon, Kristina and Katie gathering for the big "surprise" in the courtyard. The weather was sunny and beautiful and the temperature hovered around a perfect 70 degrees.

Katie Nielsen demonstrated her keen insight into human nature, and her astute ability to choose her own friends when she walked right over to Todd, reached up her arms to him, and, when he picked her up, she gave him a nice long hug. She knows a Teddy Bear when she sees one!

LeJeune's 85th Birthday Bash

LeJeune got a call from a couple of her nieces Friday afternoon saying they were in town for her birthday, and did she want to come have lunch with them on Saturday? She and Kristina loyally came over to the hotel for an afternoon visit before lunch the next day. After seeing Kathryn, Carolyn, Linda, and Katie, LeJeune joked, "well, where are Sharon, Mimi, Martha and Susie?" "On their way!" was the reply. When Susie, the last to arrive, got there at 10:00 p.m., she found the hotel room occupied by LeJeune, Kristina, Carolyn, Sharon, Mimi, Kathryn, Linda and Katie. "Most embarrassing stories" were being shared. One sister divulged that a woman had approached her at the airport to tell her that she had something hanging from her back pocket. She reached back to check one pocket, found nothing and checked the other. Again, nothing. What could be the problem? She started sliding her hand across the back of her pants and came up with some paper, which she began to discreetly wad up into her hand. Parts were dry. Parts were wet! . . . What could it be? It was . . . the sanitary toilet seat cover dripping along behind her! It must have been caught in her pants!
Not to be outdone, LeJeune shared an experience from early on in her marriage. She and Jack were playing games with some friends when LeJeune observed that it was a lot of fun to play games with so many people and lamented, "I wish there was something that husbands and wives could do together that was fun!"

Alaska

I'm here working in Alaska for two weeks. It's gorgeous - and freezing. Actually, well below freezing. The first week I was here the temperature stayed between about -15 and 0. I did get to go on a flightseeing tour over Denali National Park - including Mount McKinley - the tallest mountain in North America. It was AWESOME. I had a dog sled ride arranged, but the day we were going to do it it was too cold, the guy said, and the second time there had been freezing rain that had iced over the trails. Bummer, but I guess it wasn't meant to be! I did get to go to a small town for a Wilderness Woman competition, which was hilarious. I guess it used to be an old mining town and back in the day they would get mail order brides from California. So there was a spoof that came off of that - that their women had to be able to chop wood and shoot guns and haul water, etc. So now they have women come from all over for the competition to do just that and more. It was pretty dang funny. Anyway, it would be nice to come back sometime in the summer!
