Camp

So I just got back from girl's camp. Our stake is sure interesting! Besides being somewhat more disorganized than I'm used to, out of 9 wards and branches that make up our stake, 5 are Spanish speaking. Some of the leaders don't even speak english at all. Our ward is also interesting to work with because there are a lot of white girls from up-scale Scarsdale, and then a lot of black girls from less wealthy areas and it's interesting to see how they mix, or don't mix as the case may be. Anyway, overall it was a good time and we had a lot of fun, but it was definitely eye-opening! I called Ryan half way through and told him that our children were not allowed to go through the teenage phase.... :) I have much more sympathy now for all of you who have been through that!!!! This week the Republican National Convention is here, so hopefully it's not too eventful of a week as far as security is concerned!

Kindergarten

Dawson started school yesterday! What an exciting day for our family. Cory thinks Dawson needs a palm pilot just to keep track of all his social obligations. He already has friends to play with for the next fews days. We've had to write it on the calendar since his schedule is getting so busy with different play dates. He loved school and his teacher! Should be a fun year! Hope everyone is doing well!

Stott update

This is just an attempt to see if I can figure this out! We still have Stef and Jan living in University Village. Jan has anjoyed an engineering internship with the city this summer, and will go back to school at the "U" in the fall. Stefanie works in a cardiology office at St. Mark's hospital. Angela and James moved to Houston mid July. They spoke in Church last Sunday on fortifying the family. Angela says she took a full 7 minutes and left the rest to James, who handily used the time. James started law school Monday, (the 16th). Angela is advertising for violin students.
Nate is working full time as Sprint PCS support and wins a new prize every day, which means our house is full of theatre candy! Oh well! He eats it all!
Will is lifegaurding at Centennial Pool and at the West Valley Fitness Center and has the tan to prove it. It goes with his black hair! We just got back from the doctor's today with a diagnosis of "Swimmer's ear". I guess it goes with the territory.
Jon, who starts 7th grade Monday, got to go to a preview day today from 8:30 - 12:30. That means we're through with elementary and year round school.
Our church building is being worked on so we have moved out for about a year. We are in a lovely new building that is right by our elementary school and actually a bit closer to our house.
I guess that's all the excitement I can some up with!

Dawson's swimming lesson

We just finished Dawson's swimming lessons for the summer. Today he got to jump off the diving board. When I asked him how he liked it, he said, "It was so fun. The funnest thing EVER. Even funner than friends." That's quite a statement from someone who is asking for friends 24/7! The boys love watching the Olympics lately. Dawson picks up the play station controls and pretends like he is controlling the Olympians. Pretty funny. Carter is two and a half and keeping us very busy. He loves to copy everything Dawson does. They had their first lemonade stand this summer. Dawson kept saying "we give cash back," (I think he must get it from us using our debit cards at the grocery store!) and "buy one get one free!" I had to call the neighbor to come over and buy something from him, and then we just kept sending Carter out with more money to give to Dawson!

This summer Cory moved from flying the Brasilia to the Jet, still with SkyWest Airlines. It was quite the training process, but we survived and it's over! Next month Cory will be flying in and out of Chicago. He will also be coaching Dawson's soccer team this fall. As for me, I'm just keeping busy with the boys, the house, the husband, Primary and friends!

Hunsakers in Fish Lake

Welcome!

Welcome to the Young Family blog! To catch you up on the Hunsakers, we recently had our family get together in Fish Lake, thanks to our neighbors and the Hayes family. All but Cory were in attendance and we had a great time. Ryan and I spent the summer in Maryland, living about a block from the D.C. Temple. Ryan was doing eye research at the National Institutes of Health there and was able to get some good experience. Katie Eggertsen visited us there for a day and we had lots of fun and I was lucky to have someone to go sightseeing with. Now we're back in New York for Ryan's second year of med school. He did incredibly well last year getting honors in all his classes except biochemistry where he missed the honors mark by half a percentage point. He wants to go into opthalmology - possibly plastic surgery of the eye or corrective eye surgery. It's a very competitive field so we're lucky he's done so well here. Next week I will be going to girl's camp with the Young Women, since I'm the ward camp director this year. I am still working from home - meaning I'm either home or traveling to train doctors on using medical software. It's worked out nicely since when I'm home there's not always much to do but I still get paid. So I've spent most of the week reorganizing our 600 square foot basement - that is, of course, far more expensive than it should be. But that's New York for you. Anyway, we're hoping for a good year and we love to have visitors (if you don't mind small spaces)!
