Martha Cooks with Kids
On October 7th Susie attended Martha's "Cooking with Kids" class at Thanksgiving Point, along with her neighborhood cookoing buddies. These classes are very well received. There are 15-20 people in attendance, more than half being very well behaved children, who loved going into the kitchen to help Martha. In addition they decorated cupcakes, caramel apples, dipped Oreo cookies, and tried a couple of unusual leftover turkey sandwiches.
The Wooden Spoon Cooking School
Susie has been involved with a cooking school on Welfare Square that is dedicated to providing instruction on using the home storage commodities. It has been enthusiastically received by those who have participated. I think the response is best summed up by a sister who, after attending all the classes said, "this is the first time I have had hope that I can really do this"! There is a bi-weekly newsletter put out by The Wooden Spoon. To receive it send an email to ListServ@lists.lds.org (no subject line). Elder Stott is enjoying life in Corvallis where he is working on campus with his companion, Elder Mckinnon. The Millers
Jane is a joy and delight to her parents. Jan is looking forward to finishing up his master's degree in December and has been checking out a few engineering firms. Stefanie works with the Laurels in her ward while Jan teaches in the Elder's quorum. Perhaps we'll get the Millers in town for a time in December.
The Ure Family
Bethany and her mommy are doing well in Houston. They enjoy participating in a play group on Wednesdays. Angela teaches the young women and James is a ward missionary. Beth will be a tender big sister to the new brother coming in February. James finishes up in May, and the family is hoping to settle in Cedar City.

It's a Boy!
Cash Ryan Isom, was born June 14, 2006. He was 7lbs, 12oz. 20 inches. He's a cutie! He's excited to meet everyone. Carolyn is out here until Tuesday to help. Mark, Jane, and family also happened to be in town and were able to meet our new little boy. Ryan is a sweet dad, and I'm one sleepy mom. :)

Update on Dave
10-13-05. If Dave wasn't so dang early, this would have been a picture from his first birthday.
12-25-05 Girl or Boy? You decide. The ongoing dilemma was whether or not to chop it all off.
12-25-05 "Rise and shine Mama" says the bedhead boy on Christmas morning.
Dave giving loves! Happy Valentines Day...still can't chop off the lovely locks of hair.
4/28 We have two labs, Jet and Mabel. David's favorite is Jet (because he tolerates Dave's tormenting). In our house we have low double-hung windows and dave often goes to the open window and calls Jet. If Mabel comes to the window, he starts to cry. It's quite funny that he has a favorite, although Mabel doesn't really like Dave either, so it must work both ways.
Happy Easter and happy to be outside! We had Stake Conference and elected not to go. In case you are wondering why, this maniac can't sit still for anything and two hours of sacrament would do all of us in. Whenever Brian serves the sacrament (we're low on deacons), Dave screams and I always end up taking him out. One sunday they had to close the chapel doors b/c dave would not stop screaming. I guess I can't control my child as much as I'd like, ahh motherhood. I also love it when the old ladies tell me what works best for them too. That just really tops off my Sundays...then it's off to Primary where I get to babysit 50 more kids. Yea!
Oh yeah, back to easter. David loved finding the eggs the Easter Bunny left out for him. He couldn't figure out what he had done to deserve all those treats. The best though was that the Easter Bunny brought him goloshes. Since we've ruined the only pair of white shoes in the mud we were glad to have those. Now dave wakes up every morning and the first thing that comes out of his mouth is "shoes!" Spring is finally getting here.
5-01-06 "Danger" is my middle name! After mommy changed the lightbulbs she had to run to get the back door. When she came back Danger Dave was on the ladder, despite all the child warnings. I guess those only work for children that can read! Wait, I remember somewhere that the parents are supposed to watch their children...
BTW we finally cut Dave's hair. Too many people were thinking he was a girl and begging us to cut it.

Martha Cooks at Thanksgiving Point
Kathryn took Susan to a great evening at Thanksgiving Point where Martha was doing her monthly cooking demonstration. Susan took her camera and made a pest of herself. Martha did a wonderful job, as you would expect. The recipes were deliciously gourmet, and Martha made it all look simple. There were about 20 people in attendance. The kitchen is beautiful and spacious, if somewhat lacking in all the tools one would have at home. There were two helpers. Martha engaged Susan in the kitchen also (probably to keep her from taking more pictures). Carolyn took Susan to the first class Martha taught, a year or so ago. We highly recommend them!
Old-Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake
Dessert first, anyone? This delicious strawberry shortcake, served with whipped cream and lemon curd, was garnished with delicate violets from Martha's garden. You know they're edible, don't you? (This motivated Susie to go get some starts from her!)
Roasted Asparagus with Hollandaise
This was delicious. The hollandaise sauce is made in the blender. What a snap!
Rack of Lamb with Wilted Greens and Boysenberry Sauce
This was delicious, and what a presentation! The greens were turnip greens, sorrel, beet greens, or swiss chard. Also included were diced red onion, tomato, cooked, crumbled bacon, vinegar and sugar.
